12 Campaigns of Christmas #2 Mecha Force: Thunder Seven

Given the recent popularity of giant robots and kaiju in theaters lately, there’s always room for another weird spinoff of Legend of the Five Rings. Taking Rokugan’s culture and throwing it into a cyberpunk future and adding the return of Fu Leng’s Oni as Kaiju is a recipe for instant success for the action crowd.

Mecha Force: Thunder Seven follows the exploits of seven highly-trained teens descended from the noble samurai families of the Seven Great Clans of Rokugan. Each carries a special activation key in the form of each of their Clan Seals (or “mon”) to bring to life seven powerful mecha instilled with the souls of their ancestors and fight to banish the Oni and seal the Festering Pit of Fu Leng forever.

There are different ways to play this, from the near-nihilistic tone of CthulhuTech to the campier versions of more light-hearted anime. I don’t have a system for this just yet, but I’m sure it won’t be too difficult to pick something like Mekton Zeta or Remnants to do the job.

    I used the L5R Clans in a Shadowrun campaign back in the day. They fit in well.
