The Bayushi Family is the premier family of the Scorpion Clan. Descended from the Kami, the family is perhaps the most publicly known (and feared) family of the of the Clan.

The family serves as the Clan’s Bushi and Courtiers, and are largely responsible for the Clan’s reputation. They are the ones who carefully cultivate the Clan’s sinister and seductive appeal, and are perhaps some of the most manipulative (and beautiful) individuals in the Empire.

Given their two roles, it isn’t difficult to believe that most Bayushi samurai have more than a little bit of training on how to conduct themselves in court, while the Courtiers should at least have some means of gaining an unfair advantage that doesn’t involve talking.

One of the interesting things about the Bayushi being the public face of the Scorpion is that players who take on the role of this family should consider owning it. The Bayushi’s grace and flair and sinister  / seductive air is a powerful means to get attention so that the other Scorpion families can move without being noticed.

It’s a game of smoke and mirrors, and true to the clan, the presence of a dominating Bayushi is often a sign that perhaps the Shosuro or the Soshi are up to something. Of course, the Bayushi are not to be underestimated, and the craftiest ones can appear to be a diversion, when they are the actual ones reaching for the objective. As with a lot of illusions, the trick is to always keep people guessing so they’ll never be really prepared for what you have planned.
