[Mage: the Awakening] Endangered Species Cabals – The Amatsu-Kami

Named after the highest pantheon of gods of the Shinto Religion, the Amatsu-Kami are the foremost Cabal of mages in the Tokyo Consilium. Each and every member of the Amatsu-Kami can claim direct lineage with the ancient samurai families of Imperial Japan, and as such the Cabal firmly believes that the Mandate of Heaven lies firmly upon their shoulders.

The Amatsu-Kami are fervent believers in the Old Ways, and Kagami, the Hierarch is often quoted waxing poetic over the days when the Emperor was still a Divine Being, and all was right in the world. Certainly technology and progress was not to be scoffed at, but in his heart, Kagami cannot help but wonder if the Awakening Crisis is nothing but the hand of Karma falling upon his kind for their failure.

This sort of romanticism of the past has put the Amatsu-Kami at odds with more future-oriented groups such as the Shakha Foundation, and has earned the ire of the more aggressive Yomi Cabal. But despite all of the opposition, the Amatsu-Kami enjoy multiple long-standing pacts with higher ranking Spirits of Tokyo which makes the idea of a coup rather unpalatable at the moment.

Of course, the fact that the Spirit Courts are starting to get rather demanding and unruly with the Awakening Crisis, and Emma-O knows that it’s only a matter of time before the Amatsu-Kami loses their favor.
