New Year’s Campaign Inventory

Posted: January 3, 2012 by pointyman2000 in Articles, Roleplaying Games

Right, in the spirit of making lists for the new year, I’ve decided to try and put down the campaigns that I intend to run for the year.  I’m not going to hold my breath that all of these things materialize, as new games, time constraints and the tastes of my gaming group may affect the chances of these games actually coming true.

Legend of the Five Rings: Never a Dull Blade – This is an ongoing campaign and is the one that will most likely take up a chunk of the first quarter of the year.  I’ve had a lot of fun with this campaign so far, and I hope that my players find the game entertaining enough to stick with it until I wrap it up.  There’s an enormous amount of potential left for this campaign, so I’m certain that this game still has a ways to go.

Mage: the Awakening – No concrete ideas yet on what I’ll do with Mage, but seeing as it’s one of my favorite games, it might be inevitable that I’ll pitch this game again in some shape or form.  There’s also the option of resurrecting some of my old Mage campaign concepts such as Mage: Japan and Awakening High and giving them both another go, but I’m not certain how well that will go.

Mistborn Adventure Game – Now here’s something I want to try my hand on running.  Mistborn has plenty of options for all sorts of stories, not just the standard Heist ones that would make up the default.  Whether they be mercenaries, freedom fighters, or even their very own Noble House, the player characters will have all sorts of things to keep them busy in Scadrial.

Space Opera – Whether Fading Suns, or some other sci-fi game, I think I really ought to put my money where my mouth is and just run a sci-fi game. I keep talking about it but it never actually materializes. Maybe this time I might actually be able to pull it off.

Superheroes – Here we go, this is a genre I’ve longed to get back to, but I find myself surprisingly without much in terms of inspiration.  My prior Teen Champions game worked great because I was practically on a high from reading Invincible.  I need something that really comes off as interesting and amusing.  Maybe Secret Six meets Saint’s Row? (Hmm… come to think of it Spycraft 2.0 would be an amazing system for that sort of thing too…)

Come to think of it, this list is pretty long.  Unless some of these become one-shots I won’t be able to run everything.  No matter, I think things might work out somehow.  Besides, there’s always next year.
