Even in the midst of planning for the 4th session of Deadlands, I’ve been given an opportunity to sign up for a game to be run by Rick, the man behind the Illyria homebrew campaign setting. It’ll take place after this round of games, and I have to admit that I’m pretty excited for 2 very important reasons:
- Its Space Opera
- Its going to be using the HERO system
Somehow the gaming gods have graced me with an opportunity to play in a setting I can appreciate (Pulp), with a system I’ve sorely missed playing (HERO). While I’m certain Rick will jettison most of the campy aspects of a Space Opera campaign (more Farscape, less Buck Rogers), my enthusiasm isn’t dampened one bit.
In fact, I’m sudddenly quite inspired to see if I can cobble together a Space Opera Setting of my own and put it into a document like Rick’s Illyria. It’ll be good exercise for my world building skills, and might be amusing to put up on RPGbloggers as a free resource.

Yellow,
Haven’t been around lately. Busy.
Anyways saw something on Penny arcade that was really funny.

Hey =LoZ=!
Good to hear from you again. How’s your gaming life shaping up?
Coldshaft,
Contact Rick, you know the drill, but it looks like we’ve got slots for 6 players, so send him a message early.
Well, I’ve been delving into Free-Form Play-by-post lately. Lot’s of fun, really challenges your creativity.
However, I haven;t been able to play lately. Too busy, I was able to purchase Game Maker 7 Pro online and have been trying to put together a Shooter with a friend.
Hey =LoZ=,
Free-Form Play by post, huh? Interesting. I suppose it takes a lot of trust and understanding between players to prevent any derailing of power levels from characters (unless it’s one of those Naruto/DBZ forum “roleplay” things I’ve seen *shudders*)
So what setting are you playing in, and what is your character like?
I actually had a couple running simultaneously. Two original concepts, and another was Pokemon-based.
In the Medieval Fantasy, my character’s a Templar Knight. In the Modern Fantasy, a College Student with an Eagle Magical Beast. and in the Pokemon a Watcher.
It really does require a lot of communication OOC in order to get player’s to agree on things. Limits and boundaries of abilities is always the greatest problem, and combat between player’s is very arduous since you have to keep posts open-ended.
But I found a good group that make a very good environment.
